smartypretty™ Mittens

We were..

smartypretty™ Mittens

smartypretty™ Mittens

introduced to mimiTENS™ a while back and feel in love the vibrant colors, elbow length cuff, the fact that they are eco-friendly, and well, just about everything! So, when we found out the founder, Anna-Maria Mountfort, has created smartypretty™, a line for women, we couldn’t have been happier.  Once again – great prints and solids, super warm, eco-friendly, and of course Mountfort uses fantastic materials like water repellent nylon, Thinsulate and Oeko-Tex certified bamboo/cotton fleece. Made in Canada and they’re the real deal.

Every Mother Counts

I have long been..

Every Mother Counts

a fan of Christy Turlington Burns, but admire her even more after watching “No Woman, No Cry“. The documentary film, that she both produced and directed, tells the stories of at risk pregnant women from four parts of the world. It really opened my eyes to the challenges and suffering women face across the globe. It’s difficult to think that a thousand women die each day because of complications of child birth, AND many of them can be prevented. Christy Turlington Burns started the organization Every Mother Counts to raise awareness about this issue and is striving to make a change. By doing something as simple as donating a cell phone (which I plan to do this week), you can make a difference. Visit the website for more ways to take action.

Guest Hunter, Ami Pak

Another..

Guest Hunter, Ami Pak

Guest Hunter, Ami Pak

absolutely adorable Guest Hunter, Ami Pak. Ami was born in South Korea, raised in Minneapolis, went to college in Northern Ohio and Southern California, and now resides in Brooklyn. The fact that she’s lived all over the world explains her strong sense of individuality. I mean, the girl grew up composting and gardening vegetables in her backyard with her parents and 4 siblings (she has a brother and 3 sisters). Now if that’s not badass, I don’t know what is. She’s got style, creativity and smarts. A pretty amazing combination which can be seen in her hobbies; like printmaking, making kimchi, her obsession with design collectives, and emerging fashion. Ami is currently a Senior Program Manager at frog Design and has worked at a bunch of other reputable companies such as luckymag.com, HBO.com, MTV.com, Razorfish, and Dreamworks Records. In addition to her work and her hobbies, she’s always down for good comedy, adores her nieces and nephews, loves her friends, and feels fortunate to be living in the “Golden Age of Brooklyn”.

We’re lucky to get the inside scoop from this talented lady, so click here to keep on reading – you’re going to be cooler for doing it. Guaranteed.

LN-CC

The transition..

LN-CC, Fall 2011

LN-CC, Fall 2011

from summer to fall is always kind of fun for me. I LOVE summer, but as the stores start filling their shelves with deliveries from the upcoming season, it’s kind of hard not to get excited. After a few months of summer in the city, the cooler weather and the ability to wear bulky sweaters, leather jackets and loose fitting trousers (without have to bundle up too much) is kind of great. I’ve been thinking about fall since the meetings started to discuss the trends and key pieces but seeing the latest arrivals from UK shop, LN-CC, is really getting me quite excited for the cooler temperatures. With brands like Jil Sander, Christopher Waller, Junya Watanabe, Ohne Titel, P.A.M., Pow Wow, Maison Martin Margiela, and so many more it’s kind of hard not to be at least a little bit psyched.. right?
