FM908

Trying to maintain..

FM908 Coat with Removable Hood

FM908 Coat with Removable Hood

a certain sense of style while not spending a ton of dough can be a tough balance. So, it was a pleasant surprise to come across the label FM908. I’m not only loving this coat to transition from summer to fall, but I’m also thrilled there are many other reasonably priced styles available at this Etsy shop. Yep, that’s right, all of these unique designs are hand made too. Maybe it’ll be one of the things in your closet you won’t have to live on PB&J sandwiches to obtain.

BBQ Spices

This summer is..

BBQ

BBQ Spices

flying by, so no better time than now to have a BBQ. I asked my dear friend Jackie from Savory Spice Shop to give us a list of 5 essentials for barbecue fare. Here are her savvy suggestions:

Pikes Peak

Pikes Peak

Pikes Peak

An incredibly versatile blend you can use on just about any kind of meat. Perfect rubbed on chicken, turkey, pork chops or steaks. Mix it in with ground beef when making burgers, meat loaf or even in stuffed green peppers.

Team Sweet Mama Kansas City Rib Rub

A perfect combination of herbs and spices that compliment the best cut of red meat. A hand mixed blend from hickory smoke salt, Hungarian and California paprika, roasted garlic, toasted onion, black pepper, hickory smoke flavoring and Greek oregano.

Best part about it, you can get all these spices from here delivered right to your doorstep. Add some sangria to this BBQ and now we’re talking.

New York City – The Summer Edition

Summer..

Mister Softee Ice cream Truck

Mister Softee Ice cream Truck

in the city is kind of great. I know a lot of people disagree, but it’s quiet and there’s a ton of things to do. The fact that there’s a lot going on isn’t a total shock seeing as this is New York, but for whatever reason, it’s easy for me to not take full advantage of all the city has to offer. Time Out New York did an article on things to do in the summer here and below is an edited list of some of what New York’s got going on.

Bryant Park HBO Summer Film Festival

Bryant Park HBO Summer Film Festival

Every Monday, there’s the HBO Summer Film Festival in BryantPark. The lawn opens at 5pm (gravel area at 4pm). Entrance is only permitted on the 6th Avenue side. The witchcraft kiosk serves food, but I’m sure it’s a total zoo, so order ahead of time by going online www.wichcraftnyc.com or calling 212.780.0577.

Picnics in the park is one of my favorite things to do and there tons of places. Time Out New York has provided a list of their favorite parks and check out some spots to pick up food if you don’t feel like preparing a meal.

The High Line Park

The High Line Park

The High Line. Kind of a no brainer and because it recently opened, it’s kind of hectic. Regardless, it’s worth grabbing a La Newyorkina popsicle and wondering around.

David Rubenstein Atrium at Lincoln Center

David Rubenstein Atrium at Lincoln Center

There’s free music every Thursday at Lincoln Center in the David Rubenstein Atrium, concerts start at 8:30. Here’s the calendar.

SummerStage

SummerStage

SummerStage offers events at parks throughout the five boroughs.  It’s the biggest free performing arts festival. Acts range from concerts to theater and everything in between.  The festival runs from June 7th – September 2nd , lines are crazy, so be sure to give yourself plenty of time.

Union Square Greenmarket

Union Square Greenmarket

The Union Square Greenmarket is a total favorite of mine. I can walk around there for hours. They have everything from fresh produce to homemade pretzels. It’s open Monday, Wednesay, Friday, and Saturday from 8am – 6pm. Click here to learn more.

Hester Street Fair, Shaved Ice Shop

Hester Street Fair, Shaved Ice Shop

Starting in the spring, street fairs pop up all over the city. One that runs every Saturday from 10am-6pm and is worth checking out is the Hester Street Fair. Lots of delicious ways to indulge and unique goods to buy.

Head to the Brooklyn Flea to see some of the best local talent.  It’s really hard to leave empty handed or hungry. With all of the great food options, plan to eat the day a way.

Midday Martini at the Met

Midday Martini at the Met

Time Out New York mentioned having a drink at the Met’s roof garden. Apparently the Midday Martini, which consists of coconut rum, mango and pineapple juice is the perfect summer cocktail. It certainly sounds like it is! Oh, and the Anthony Caro exhibit is up there too.

MoMA PS1

MoMA PS1

Okay, this list just touches on it. Of course there are countless restaurants with outdoor seating, ferries and trains to beaches like the SeaStreak that goes to Sandy Hook. Museums, amazing shopping, boat rides, MoMA PS 1, and a ton more. It is New York afterall.

Summer Vacation

A much needed..

new hampshire

(and anticipated) vacation is here. The 2 of us are enjoying a little time out of the city in Rye, which is a small town on the seacoast of New Hampshire. This week it’s all about our New England favorites.. where we’re eating, what treasures we’ve found and what we’re up to. So keep checking back.

Civic Duty

Spotted..

Civic Duty

Civic Duty

on a passerby last weekend, and I had to ask where these shoes were from. Civic Duty Sneakers are made of Tyvek and environmentally friendly materials. Each season the company will be designing a shoe where 100% of the profits go to a great cause (Common Ground Relief is the organization currently benefiting). What better than comfort, style and doing some good to make these the perfect addition to any summer wardrobe.

Zara

Impressed with..

Zara

Zara’s Spring/Summer line. Surprisingly affordable and cool, the pieces also seem really easy to wear. I haven’t seen any of the clothes in person, so I’m hoping it’s not just the tricks of styling catching my eye. But with the men’s and kid’s collections looking just as fine, we may have to make the trip to Zara a family affair.

Summer Swimsuits

One day..

Adore Vintage

Adore Vintage

of warm weather and of course my mind is racing with thoughts of being on the beach. Yep, still working on “living in the now.” Anyway, my selection of suits is much different now than what it used to be due to the fact that I’ll be chasing after my little one, rather than basking in the sun. I love this 1950’s swim suit from Adore Vintage, however I may just stick with my burnt orange one piece from last season’s J. Crew line and and my good ol’ standby from Malia Mills. Here are a few other pretty styles that caught my eye…
