Guest Hunter, Ashley Kennedy

Say hello..

Ashley Kennedy

Ashley Kennedy

to Ashley Kennedy. We are absolutely thrilled to have her as our Guest Hunter for the week and we can guarantee you will enjoy her fabulous picks (as we certainly did). You’ll want to keep reading to learn more about the life of this cool girl and spy some of her favorite things. But really no one can say it better than Ashley herself…

I’m a San Francisco native who has been circumstantially transplanted into Los Angeles for the last 14 years, but I dream of living in SF again someday. I was born into the fashion world with a clothing designer mom and a maternity clothing manufacturer dad, and all they ever told me was “Don’t go into this business!”  But it was in my blood, and I ended up where I was meant to be…in the kids fashion industry!  I was a trend forecaster for years and then when I got pregnant with my first son, I launched a boys clothing website called LittleDudesonly.com, which I have since sold (it is still operating today under new owners). I was frustrated with the lack of creativity and innovation in boy’s apparel, and now that I’m a mother of two boys (and a third son due in November), it continues to annoy me that there are only a handful of boys clothing lines that are doing something different! I admit it’s getting better, but it’s still not where it should be.

I decided to sell my website, and I was hired as a buyer for TheMiniSocial.com, which is THE COOLEST of all the kids flash sale websites out there. They were the first on the kids flash sale scene and they continue to offer the best in kids boutique brands (totally impartial here).

I’ve been a kids buyer for over two years and I absolutely love what I do. I live in Silver Lake with my husband and two sons. We love to go to concerts, movies and our favorite restaurants (Din Tai Fung, Casa Bianca and Speranza to name a few).  I’m one of those people who constantly barrages everyone I know with all the coolest new places and things I’ve found, so I’m excited to have an excuse to impart my opinions this time!

Sombre Negra by Yosh

Was recently..

Sombre Negra by Yosh

Sombre Negra by Yosh

introduced to San Francisco based perfumer Yosh Han and love the scents as well as the concept. Han knows what she’s doing; she’s been making perfumes since 1994 and uses finest ingredients from around the world. In addition, her scents incorporate principles of chakra energy and numerology – just plan cool, right? Sombre Negra, or black shadow is her latest creation. The edgy fragrance has a masculine scent works for a man or woman. Remember the “Boyfriend Blazer” and the “Boyfriend Jean” that were so big a few years back? Yeah, well this is the “Boyfriend Fragrance”. Get it.

Sombre Negra is available at Barneys New York.

Yellow Monkey Storage Bin

A shop..

Sprout Monkey Storage Bin, $40

Sprout Monkey Storage Bin, $40

called Sprout recently opened in my neighborhood.  It’s the first in New York, but they’re online and on Union Street in San Francisco. The store is full of great gifts, toys and clothing; all of which are well made from all natural and organic materials. I don’t even have a kid and it’s hard to walk out empty handed. In addition to carrying a ton of recognizable brands, they have their own line of goods that is certainly worth knowing about. I’m in love with this monkey storage bin. It’s made from organic cotton canvas and can be collapsed for easy storage when not in use. If you’re not into the monkey, they’ve got other animals like an owl, fox, hippo, and raccoon.  Perfect for anything from toys to laundry and so darn happy. One word,  adorable.

Gravel & Gold

Earlier in the week..

 Gravel & Gold

Gravel & Gold

I posted about the SFS Tunic Top, which comes from Gravel & Gold. I stumbled upon this gem of a shop while visiting San Francisco. I was newly pregnant, and the three shop owners were all so amazing. Not only did I get some fab non-maternity tops that I could wear with my growing belly, but they also gave me some great (and welcome) advice. Lucky for me, one of the owners just happened to be a certified doula and midwife. Gravel and Gold carries a well curated selection of books, clothes, housewares, cards, accessories and bric-a-brac. Worth being on your radar.

SFS Tunic Top

I usually shop..

SFS Tunic Top

SFS Tunic Top

for clothes that are versatile and can be used from season to season (although I am kind of excited to buy a few cozy sweaters for the cooler weather.) The SFS Tunic Top is a definite must on my list. It’s lightweight cotton, and can be paired with cut-offs and moccasins OR layered underneath those cozy sweaters. Inspired by her father’s successful kimono business, vintage styles and traditional methods, SFS (San Francisco Souvenirs) was started in 2005 by designer Shinobu Sering. The garments are made in San Francisco and more styles can be found at Gravel & Gold.

Slip-N-Snip Scissors

Who doesn’t need..

slip-n-snip scissors

Slip-N-Snip Scissors $12

a pair of Slip-N-Snip Scissors? While visiting San Francisco, I came across an amazing and unforgettable shop called Gravel & Gold, where I picked up a pair of these scissors. The owners of the store were unbelievably kind and also extremely helpful. Gravel & Gold carries local designer clothing, accessories, and a variety of oddities, making it hands down one of my favorite shops!
