we all know, good basics aren’t so easy to come by. The 1930’s Bay Meadow Tee from Levi’s Vintage Clothing is one of those pieces. It claims to be “the original American t-shirt”, has a front pocket and is made from 100% cotton. Perfect for everyday wear and just simply should be in every guy’s closet.. or drawer.

The Man Can is by Plum Island Soap Co., a company based in Plum Island, Massachusetts.  The kit comes in a 1-gallon paint can and includes all the products one needs – soap, shave gel, bay rum oil, hand butter, and a bath mitt. Smart, functional and sure to be used. Even guys appreciate good hygiene, right?

LEMON BALL

One..

LEMON BALL Leather Ball, $40

LEMON BALL Leather Ball, $40

for the guy who has everything. The company, LEMON BALL, was founded by Paul Cunningham. Cunningham is a Hall of Fame researcher and MLB photo editor, so clearly an avid fan. His design stems from the “lemon peel baseball” which has been around for 200 years.  All footballs and baseballs are handcrafted in New Jersey.  Well crafted and a cool piece for the bookshelf. Another good one found on Etsy.

Patagonia Trucker Hat

Me..

Patagonia Trucker Hat, $25

Patagonia Trucker Hat, $25

raving about mesh hats isn’t something that’s going to happen too often, but this Trucker Hat from Patagonia is a good look. As the brand put it “you don’t need 18 wheels to sport this high-crown, classic hat”. Afterall it is from Patagonia, so it’s got long lasting style which the timeless brand is known for.  Made from organic cotton canvas, polyester mesh, a solid color palette, and a logo that’s a personal favorite. They just do things right.

Cruiser Jacket

Finding..

Nanamica Cruiser Jacket

Nanamica Cruiser Jacket

good rainwear is no easy feat.  For the past season or two, I’ve been drawn to more traditional pieces like the yellow raincoats worn in the 80’s. A simple statement that’s all about functionality, which is just smart. Well, the Cruiser Jacket from Nanamica pretty much nailed it. The timeless piece is made from 100% cotton goretex, a fabric that’s good for wind and water proofing.  It also has leather detailing, clasp fastenings, an adjustable hood, and is sold at Superdenim. A good update on something that was already pretty darn great.

Adidas GSG 9.2 High Boots

Sort of..

Adidas GSG 9.2 High Boots

Adidas GSG 9.2 High Boots

an updated combat boot. Now, there is nothing wrong with the old tried and true version (Rene and I both wear them), but this hybrid sneaker-boot is a very nice alternative. The GSG 9.2 High Boots from Adidas is an all-season shoe and is worn by SWAT teams as well as other special forces groups, so it’s the real deal.  Rugged with high-tech features like CLIMAPROOF® for water-proofing and breathability, adiPRENE® heel insert for comfort and shock absorption, and a ton more. A sneaker that is cool enough for everyday. That’s for sure.

A winter..

staple and a solid layering piece. The Penfield-Stapleton Vest is available at Persona in Navy and British Green. It’s got genuine brown leather shoulder trim, leather trimmed sleeve cuffs and detailed pockets. Both colorways have a smart, bright interior lining that adds a nice pop of color without being overbearing. And because it’s by Penfield, a brand with a reputation for making high-quality outerwear, the one’s worth every penny.

Red Wing Heritage x Nigel Cabourn “Munson Boot”

Hitting..

Red Wing Heritage x Nigel Cabourn "Munson Boot"

Red Wing Heritage x Nigel Cabourn "Munson Boot"

select retailers next fall is the Munson Boot – a Nigel Cabourn and Red Wing Heritage collaboration. The two teamed up to make a very practical shoe that was inspired by British Army combat boots from World War 1. Both companies are industry experts, so combining their expertise and knowledge results in a boot that is good looking, rugged and ready to be worn.  It features oiled roughout leather (which means the flesh side is facing out, so it’s ideal for waterproofing) and will be offered in two colors; a light-brown Hawthorne Muleskinner as well as the darker Chocolate Muleskinner. Both colorways come with deep green thick leather shoelaces, matching eyelets and my personal fav  – army green Harris tweed lining. A quality boot that’s going to last.
