Founded in 2000..
Kidscase Bob Turtle
launched in 2001, Kidscase is the work of designer Jacqueline van Nieuwkerk and marketer Merel Verbrugge in Amsterdam. They were (and continue to be) about creating a line for boys and girls up to the age of eleven that fit today’s lifestyle. Simple pieces, many made from organic fabrics and all with great detail. In their words “comfortable, wearable, sophisticated, and radiating style and cool chic”. Enough said.

makes me want to learn to sew. Figgy’s Patterns creates “simple to make patterns with modern styles and contemporary taste that won’t be out of style in a season or two”. They use beautiful fabrics with great patterns like ikat and Navajo prints to make very wearable, super cool, almost sophisticated (in a good way) clothes for kids. With bubble skirts, reversible hooded coats and pocket dresses, my only request is to make patterns in my size!

mittens are designed with kids in mind. They have stretchy cuffs that reach the elbow, so they stay on a kids’ hand and they look super cool too. Not to mention the color and embroidery options make it hard to decide which ones to pick up first. Anna-Maria Mountfort founded mimiTENS™ because she had a good idea and we agree. mimiTENS™ are offered in two styles: soft and all weather. Both are eco-friendly and use materials like water-repellent nylon, Thinsulate and bamboo/organic cotton fleece. Made in Canada by the best, clearly these guys are meant to be worn.

Sprout Monkey Storage Bin, $40
called Sprout recently opened in my neighborhood. It’s the first in New York, but they’re online and on Union Street in San Francisco. The store is full of great gifts, toys and clothing; all of which are well made from all natural and organic materials. I don’t even have a kid and it’s hard to walk out empty handed. In addition to carrying a ton of recognizable brands, they have their own line of goods that is certainly worth knowing about. I’m in love with this monkey storage bin. It’s made from organic cotton canvas and can be collapsed for easy storage when not in use. If you’re not into the monkey, they’ve got other animals like an owl, fox, hippo, and raccoon. Perfect for anything from toys to laundry and so darn happy. One word, adorable.

Pincushion Growth Charts, $70
my mom marked the height of my brother, sister and me on the back of a door in our house. It’s sometimes hard to believe we were ever that little, and I still think it’s cool to have documented. So when I stopped by a new kids’ store that recently opened in my neighborhood, I couldn’t resist picking up this Growth Chart from Pincushion for my nephew. This colorful canvas chart is hand made in India from 100% organic cotton. They are screen-printed with fun scenes in toxin-free dyes with plenty of space to write down other milestones in addition to their growth progress. The store only had the city scene right now, but assured me others would be coming in soon, so my nieces will be getting one too.
repurposed skateboard. We’ve talked about skateboard chalkboards, cardboard skateboards, longboards and now a swing. Pretty cool, right? This swing from Cedar Works is made in the USA at a factory in Maine from strong maple hardwood, so it can hold just about anyone. Not to mention, a lot of skill was involved. Rumor has it that it’s quite a ride, and this is according to kids of all ages. It bends, bounces, swings, but doesn’t break. The only thing it’s missing is grip, so you might want to pick yourself up some grip tape while you’re at it.

fall 2011 is hitting stores and I am totally thrilled! Kids’ line Koolabah has introduced their latest collection and it should be hitting stores anyday. Much like spring/summer, it will not disappoint. Full of bold prints, unique silhouettes and the Japanese aesthetic we associate with this fantastic unisex brand for little ones. With oversized striped blazers, perfectly cut sweatshirts and cuffed leggings, the arrival is more than exciting. So be on the lookout, your kids’ will be happy you did.
- Mini Rodini Velvet Cap
at Mini Rodini’s
fall collection! This amazing brand out of Sweden was founded in 2006 by illustrator Cassandra Rhodin. Her inspiration came from her great grandfather, the legendary circus king Brazil Jack, and her line reflects what the name conjures up. It’s totally fashionable, carefree, a bit whimsical, and made with sustainability in mind. Quality clothing that little ones are pretty much psyched to wear. With all of the great prints and wearable silhouettes, it’s hard to not want to scoop up the whole collection.

Just got word..
Mimosa Robot Tee, $28
from Mimosa that the Robot Tees are in! They are the latest project from the brand and are made from 100% organic cotton in the USA. The eco-friendly robot screenprint is available in either gold or silver, depending on the color tee you pick. Mimosa was started by 2 sisters, Ariel and Holly. They are from a creative family, their mom an artist and their dad a writer, so it isn’t a huge surprise these two had an entrepreneurial itch. Holly does all of the illustrations and Ariel handles much of the business. The result is a line of unique tees, prints and cards that are made with the highest quality materials. Customization is also available. I was thinking the Robot Tees for my neices and nephew, but all the prints are very sweet, so it’s really hard to pick one. I guess if this is the hardest decision I’m dealing with, things aren’t so bad!
