Sean Tice and Kristy Hadeka brought pieces of slate back from Hadeka’s family slate quarry in upstate New York and made gifts for friends; no surprise, those trivets and coasters were huge hits and so Brooklyn Slate Company was born. The line has been around for a couple of years now and consists of cheese boards, placemats, coasters, as well as some garden items like garden markers and seedling markers. Tice and Hadeka still make regular trips upstate to handpick red and black slate, which they take to their studio in Red Hook to work their magic. All goods are handcrafted and brilliantly packaged in items like envelopes or burlap bags which can be repurposed. Quality stone that’s totally one of a kind, practical pieces, timeless designs, and lovely packaging. Who wouldn’t want some slate as a gift?
