From stores to fishing..
there’s a lot for guys to do while in Portsmouth. If you’re looking to support local businesses, head the Federal Cigar, a shop that’s been around since 1921. It carries a ton of brands (that don’t mean anything to me), but apparently if you in the mood for a good cigar, and know anything about tobacco, you’ll be happy with the options.
Runner’s Alley in downtown is known as THE running store in NH and has become the “hub” for all things running related – clothes, sneakers, the latest technology and gadgets, local races, you name it. The staff knows what they are talking about too, always a plus when it comes to your knees.
If you’re in the market for a new messenger bag, BaileyWorks is worth checking out. Every bag is hand made out of super durable materials. Not only is everything made to order, all bags can be customized, so you decide if you want extras like a top handle or an interior water bottle holder. Practical, functional and they can take a beating.
Shopping’s not your thing? Shocking. Well, stop by the Portsmouth Brewery for some locally brewed beer. Deep sea fishing out of Rye Harbor is also an option. Trips run daily, apparently the Atlantic Fishing Fleet is a good way to go. Portsmouth Kayak Adventures is another cool way to spend a few hours. They offer classes, tours and rentals – all of which seem pretty reasonable and a great way to take in some amazing views of the seacoast.
There’s also an old British sports car dealer, Brit Bits we passed a bunch of times that looks pretty cool. They sell new and used cars that are in good condition and perfect for cruising in the summer. Lastly, stop at The Meat House on your way back to wherever you’re staying and pick up some of the best sirloin tips (no joke) for a night of grilling out. You won’t be disappointed.
