Tahira Kahn

Guest Hunter for this week is Tahira Kahn. While she’s made her mark as a fashion stylist for some big names like J.Crew, Madewell, Tommy Hilfiger and Ralph Lauren (just to name a few), we had some fun working together back in the day. She’s a laid back gal who also drives a motorcycle, pretty darn cool.

TAHIRA KAHN

I am happiest when I am with my family, but I am so very lucky to love what I do for a living.  I learned what bliss really is when my daughter Sasha was born, and I cherish every moment we share.  Motherhood has made me lighter and sillier in my day to day, but more determined in my professional life.  My selections are a combination of some of my favorite things and are inspired by my work and family life.

Outdoor Rug by Gaiam

My husband and I have been slowly renovating our home for the past 5 years, and we finally got to the back yard this summer.  We added this outdoor rug from Gaiam made of recycled plastic bottles.  It makes the yard feel like an extension of our home, like an outdoor living room.

If you live in New York, you know how hot it gets in the summer!  Do not judge the quality of this product with the quality of the photo.  This table top oven has been a lifesaver!!  We simply put it out on the porch, so it doesn’t heat up the house. It is a convection oven, so it cooks quickly and uses less energy!!

HERS:

Kinky-Curly

I placed Kinky-Curly in the “Hers” category, but really, my entire family uses it! We are all curly tops with different textures.  I have kinks, my husband has curls and our little girl has a little of both.  Kinky-Curly falls under the category of miracle product. Defines and lengthens kinky hair into luscious coils, and used sparingly on curly hair it enhances the beauty.  Not only do I look good when I use kinky-curly, but I feel good. It is organic and completely natural, with food grade ingredients, though I haven’t tasted!

I love anything with a sense of humor, and this jewelry, screams fun!!   Lots of color, and a mix of found objects and mixed materials. Each piece is unique, and hand crafted by the adorable Parisian, Lamia.  I was lucky to work with and be inspired by Lamia at Ralph Lauren, before she left New York to work on her own line!!

This point and shoot is awesome, it delivers professional quality images in a pocket-sized package!   It is also equipped with a Leica lens, and it has great video quality.  My husband never leaves home without it!

If you are a gadget junkie, and prone to losing things, like my husband, you’ll want to add an automatic lens cap.

My friend Maria weaves thread and silver into timeless pieces! She is the designer behind the brand Maria but makes kids jewelry as well.  Her kids line is MARRIUCH, which means “Little Maria” in Italian.  My daughter Sasha is a girl who loves her accessories, and her MARRIUCH bracelet is a staple in her wardrobe!!  She makes the loveliest little bracelets for lovely little girls!!

When you are 3 years old, snacks are essential!  These little snack bags have saved us from filling landfills with countless plastic bags.  Many thanks to our friend Patricia, who found and gave a set to Sasha  for Christmas last year.

Medeski Martin & Wood - Let's Go Everywhere

Music is essential in our house.  We don’t watch much TV, but we do enjoy lots of music, and an impromptu dance party.  One of our favorites is Let’s Go Everywhere by Medeski Martin and Wood.  Real music for kids, and their music loving parents!

I just love this easy on and off polish.   It is water based, non toxic, and you don’t need remover to take it off!!  This is the only polish that I’ve ever seen that doesn’t have a foul odor!!

FOOD:

I have to give a shout out to one of my favorite spots in my Brooklyn neighborhood, The Castello Plan.  It is a little wine bar in Ditmas Park with lovely food.  If you know me, you know that I am a sucker for scallops, and they serve a beautifully seared scallop dish over a bed of mushrooms. Yum!!

Stogo

I like to eat well, and feed my family well, but I do love a treat!!  The ice-cream is dairy free, and has no refined sugar!!  In fact it is so good, that even junk-foodies I know like it!!  Salted pistachio is my favorite, though I have never tasted a bad flavor at this store.  They will happily offer samples so that you can decide for yourself. I love Stogo so much that I even go in the winter time!!  Love love love, this ice-cream makes me happy!!
