Guest Hunter, Kat West

Okay..

Kat West

Kat West

this lady’s awesome. This week’s Guest Hunter is Kat West of THE kids’ line Babylady.  Kat lives in Brooklyn with her husband, John, their two kids and two dogs.  She was born in the Philippines but grew up in the borough and loves and raising her kids in this dynamic city.

We’ve been fans of her work for quite some time (check out a write-up we did on Babylady back in June) so learning her story was a lot of fun and quite inspiring.  To start, Kat has not technically been “trained” in design, but grew up in a creative family and clearly that wore off on this New Yorker. Her mom was a toy designer and bought Kat her first (toy) sewing machine when she was 6. By 10, her mom would pay Kat to trace patterns for her. So although no formal training, she has passion, real world experience and drive.  Not to mention a place in her heart for New York’s Garment District, so the brand is committed to  manufacturing 100% of their designs locally. Learn more about Babylady and Kat by reading on. She’s adorable, an individual and very refreshing – so there really isn’t any reason why you wouldn’t!

Kiehl's Epidermal Re-Texturizing Micro-Dermabrasion, $41

Kiehl’s Most Fabulous Facial Scrub, I’ve actually had this for quite sometime, and sadly I forget to use it.  I recently started to make a ritual out of it because my skin was looking so uneven. I now use this scrub twice a week and it has worked wonders, leaves my skin glowing and fresh!!

HIS:

Chalayan Airborne by COMME des GARCONS, $95/50ml

Chalayan Airborne by COMME des GARCONS, $95/50ml

Chalayan Airborne by COMME des GARCONS is a Citrus Aromatic fragrance for women and men. This is a new fragrance, and was launched in 2011. I know this isn’t really JUST for men but my best friend Ricky wears this and I LOVE the smell of it!!  It has citrus hints and a soft flowery scent with undertones of musky cedar. I LOVE.

Top notes are african orange flower, bergamot and amalfi lemon; middle notes are mastic or lentisque and juniper berries; base notes are musk, virginia cedar and incense.

Sold exclusively at Comme Des Garcons
520 West 22nd Street
New York, New York  10011

Babylady SS12

Not to toot our own horn , but Babylady SS12 rules!!! OKAY, threetwentyeight’s stepping in for a second because you need to know more than this line rules (which it totally does by the way)! The kids’ brand is refreshing, hip and super stylish. Like all deliveries, SS12 is full of non traditional cuts for little ones that are really comfortable, super sweet and very wearable. In keeping in line with West’s committment to save the Garment District, all goods are 100% designed and made locally. SS12 looks awesome – it’s inspired by starfish, mermaids and their love for the ocean, click here to start making your wishlist!

FOOD:

Lucali Restaurant

Lucali Restaurant

Lucali, hands down is THE BEST PIZZA, EVER.  As Brooklyn as Brooklyn gets.  They don’t have a website, I had to find YELP and CITYSEARCH, to find anything on them for you!!

No reservations, and when you show up (as most do before they open)  there’s already a 2 hour wait.  So what do we locals do?  Call in for  pick-up!  I call just as they open, and if I’m lucky, they’ll say “Come down right now, they’re putting it in the oven for ya.”  And I am greeted with the freshest mozzarella, with crunchy but chewy dough, fresh basil in sprigs thrown about the pie, with fresh parmesan sprinkled gingerly.

GREAT THINGS:

Pier 6 Brooklyn Bridge Park

Pier 6 Brooklyn Bridge Park

I’m a die hard Brooklyn Fan, so when one of the most amazing parks opened a 10 minute walk from our house, I had died and gone to heaven!!

We love EVERYTHING about Pier 6, my kids can’t stay still in there!!  The Slide Mountain, the Sandbox, the Waterpark, the ferry to Governor’s Island is docked there, and now they’ve opened Bark Lounge, eats and drinks while at this beautiful park!!
