this lady’s awesome. This week’s Guest Hunter is Kat West of THE kids’ line Babylady. Kat lives in Brooklyn with her husband, John, their two kids and two dogs. She was born in the Philippines but grew up in the borough and loves and raising her kids in this dynamic city.
We’ve been fans of her work for quite some time (check out a write-up we did on Babylady back in June) so learning her story was a lot of fun and quite inspiring. To start, Kat has not technically been “trained” in design, but grew up in a creative family and clearly that wore off on this New Yorker. Her mom was a toy designer and bought Kat her first (toy) sewing machine when she was 6. By 10, her mom would pay Kat to trace patterns for her. So although no formal training, she has passion, real world experience and drive. Not to mention a place in her heart for New York’s Garment District, so the brand is committed to manufacturing 100% of their designs locally. Learn more about Babylady and Kat by READING ON. She’s adorable, an individual and very refreshing – so there really isn’t any reason why you wouldn’t!
