Hester Street Fair food vendor that’s hard to resist. New York based company, melt bakery makes innovative updates to one of my favorite childhood treats: the ice cream sandwich. It’s kind of two desserts in one, so what kid (or adult) wouldn’t be a fan? The company was founded by pastry chef Julian Plyter and businessman Kareem Hamady in the Lower East Side. And with the “lovelet” – red velvet whoopie pies with cream cheese ice cream, or the “elvis” – banana ice cream with peanut butter cookies, theses aren’t your ordinary chipwiches. They offer delivery – from the East River to the Hudson River all the way from Canal to 96th Streets. In addition to selling these irresistible treats on Saturdays at the Hester Street Fair , they’re available in the Standard Hotel underpass Friday thru Sunday all summer long as well as some local spots around the city. With all of the flavors, it’s a tough decision, but I think I’m going with the “thick mint” – a chocolate cookie and peppermint ice cream. Not to fret, there is always the “classic” (chocolate chip walnut cookie and vanilla ice cream) for those looking to take a trip down memory lane.
